Marcos Milewski is an artist of Polish origin and Argentine-French nationality. Born in Córdoba, Argentina, in 1959.

Since 1990, he lives and works in Funchal. Its activity is developed in several aspects: easel painting, muralism, urban art, sculpture and experimentation with new materials of plastic expression. All these facets of his work have as their point of integration a constant game of citing the artists he admires and reinterprets in an infinite game, such as: the Flemish painters of the early Renaissance (Jan Van Eyck , PetrusChristus , Patinir ), the great artists of the 17th century like Velásquez and Vermeer , the creators of the 20th and 21st centuries (Magritte , Escher, Hopper , Balthus , António López García, Richter , Mueck).

His creative project seeks to establish a dialogue between several key moments in the History of Art and our contemporary world. Since the eighties of the last century, he has organized multiple exhibitions in several countries, namely Argentina, France and Portugal. In recent years, he has been developing an intense activity in muralism and Urban Art, especially concentrated in Madeira.

“Windows” Exhibition – John dos Passos Cultural Center

The exhibition has as its guiding principle the theme of the window, exploring its real and metaphorical meanings, in order to invite the spectator to decipher the allegories that refer to different readings of our contemporaneity. Considering that every painting is, in the first place, a window that reflects proposals for a certain artist's vision, this exhibition seeks to question and play with the symbolic potential of the window theme in its various aspects such as mirrors, computer screens, frames of frames and of course literal windows.

Carolina Marcos Caldeira (1989) is a Portuguese artist born in Funchal, Madeira Island. With an academic background in psychological sciences, communication, and advertising, she has been developing artistic and research projects as a creative director, producer, author and director.

The enthusiasm for the different layers that make up (his) universe is also reflected in the diversity of means with which he explores his artistic expression, often tending towards analogical collage, photographic composition, film and poetry.

In artistic residency at Ponta do Sol, he intends to work the place from a scenographic point of view, capturing characteristic angles that may not be obviously identifiable. The search for poetry hidden in every corner is a constant in her work and in her daily life, so the result of the residency work will result from several internal and external trips and, above all, the component of situationism.
